A genuinely free booking system for NZ.
Every feature, no clock running.
GoodKeen’s Free plan is a genuinely free booking system for New Zealand operators: every feature, up to 25 bookings a month, and 0% booking fees to you or your guests. It’s free forever — not a trial — funded by paid plans that lift the cap, not by fees hidden in your guests’ checkout.
No credit card to sign up. Paid plans in NZD. Built in New Zealand.
“Free” comes in four flavours
Before you sign up for any free booking software, work out which flavour you’re being offered. Only one of them stays free once real bookings start arriving.
Genuinely free
A capped-but-complete plan, funded by the paid tiers above it. Every feature, paid bookings welcome, 0% fees. This is how GoodKeen Free works — the cap is 25 bookings a month, and the paid plans simply lift it.
Fee-funded “free”
No monthly bill, because your guests pay at checkout instead — FareHarbor’s guest fee is typically 6–8%, not published and set per agreement. On a busy month, “free” software like this costs your guests more than any subscription would cost you.
Feature-limited free
Free until you need the second feature. Bookwhen’s free tier takes bookings for free events only — start charging and you need a paid plan. SimplyBook.me’s free tier caps your bookings and includes just one premium feature; the rest sit behind paid tiers.
The trial in disguise
Rezdy and Bookeo don’t have free plans at all — a 21-day and a 30-day trial respectively, and then the meter starts. Nothing wrong with a trial, as long as you don’t find it in the search results for “free”.
The free options, side by side
What each “free” actually gets you — and what it costs once you’re taking real money.
| System | What’s free | The catch |
|---|---|---|
| GoodKeen Free | 25 bookings a month, every feature, paid bookings included, 0% fees to you and your guests. Free forever. | A small “powered by GoodKeen” badge on your booking page. |
| Bookwhen Free | Up to 50 bookings a month. | Free events only — the moment you charge, you need a paid plan. No native gift cards either; its docs point to a third-party workaround. |
| SimplyBook.me Free | A capped monthly allowance of bookings. | Only one premium feature included — pick between the extras, or pay for a tier that bundles them. |
| FareHarbor | No monthly subscription. | Your guests pay a checkout fee on every booking — typically 6–8%, not published, set per agreement. |
| Rezdy | A 21-day trial. | Then $49/$99/$249 per month + 3% per online booking (region-detected currency, ex-GST in AU). |
| Bookeo | A 30-day trial. | Then no per-booking fees, but Tours Standard is US$39.95/mo (Solo from US$14.95), booking caps run 1,000–3,000/mo, waivers are a paid add-on from US$9/mo, and it’s USD-billed. |
Free tiers, trial lengths and rates per each provider’s published pricing pages, checked Aug 2026 — check each provider for current rates. FareHarbor’s guest fee is not published — “typically 6–8%” per an analysis by rival platform CaptainBook (captainbook.io). Card processing (Stripe) is charged separately by your payment provider on any system.
The two catches, in plain sight
There are exactly two differences between Free and the paid plans, and neither is a feature. First: your booking page shows a small “powered by GoodKeen” badge. That’s the whole advertisement — it’s how a free plan pays for itself without touching your guests’ wallets.
Second: the cap of 25 bookings a month. A booking is one reservation, not one person — a group of eight arriving on one reservation is a single booking. Run two sessions a week and you can fit an entire month’s trade under the cap with room to spare.
When you outgrow it, Starter is NZ$39/mo and Pro is NZ$79/mo, both uncapped in features from day one — because Free already had every feature. Paid is a cap lift plus priority support, nothing more.
- New online bookings pause gracefully until the month rolls over. Nothing breaks, and no fees start.
- Everything already booked keeps working — confirmations, waivers, QR check-in, refunds, the daily manifest.
- Upgrade any time to lift the cap — and drop back down later. There’s no lock-in in either direction.
Who runs a business on the free plan
25 reservations a month is small for a full-time tour operation — and exactly right for a lot of NZ operators.
Just starting out
You’ve fitted out the axe-throwing lane but don’t know yet whether Tuesday nights will sell. Take real paid bookings from day one — waivers signed, payments into your own Stripe account — without adding a subscription to the pile of start-up costs.
Seasonal operators
Paddleboard hire that runs December to March and hibernates the rest of the year. The Free plan doesn’t care that July took zero bookings — there’s no subscription ticking over while the shed is locked, and your customer records are still there in spring.
Side-hustle studios
A Saturday pottery workshop, a Thursday-night life-drawing session — eight or ten group reservations a month sits comfortably under the cap forever. You get the same schedules, promo codes and reports as an operator paying for Pro.
Nothing held back on Free
There are no feature gates anywhere in GoodKeen. The free plan is the whole product with a cap on volume.
