Hire booking software that speaks NZ.
0% booking fees, on every plan.
GoodKeen is a New Zealand booking system for hire operators — kayaks, bikes, boats, fishing charters. It sells hourly, half-day and full-day sessions with a capacity per timeslot, takes waivers before the gear leaves the rack, and charges 0% booking fees on every plan. Free forever up to 25 bookings a month.
The rest of the world files this under “rental software”. Here, it’s hire — and this page speaks both.
All prices in NZD. Built in New Zealand.
The jobs a hire counter actually has
Every hire business runs the same day: gear out, gear back, everyone signed, nobody double-booked. These are the pieces GoodKeen does for you.
Hourly, half-day & full-day tiers
Each hire length is a pricing tier on the session — per-person or flat-rate, whichever suits the gear. An hour, a half-day and a full day sit side by side on one booking page.
Capacity per timeslot
Capacity is your fleet at the door: ten boards means the 2pm slot takes ten. You always know how many are out at 2pm — without barcoding a single one.
15-minute checkout holds
The moment a guest starts paying, their gear is held against capacity with a visible countdown — so two guests can’t both buy the last kayak while one of them digs for a card.
Abandoned carts release gear
Unpaid bookings expire automatically after 30 minutes. A guest who wanders off mid-checkout hands the slot straight back — no phantom bookings blocking a sunny Saturday.
Waivers before gear leaves the rack
Every participant signs at booking — a real drawn signature, stored with the exact waiver text, a timestamp and a PDF export. Your risk-communication records sort themselves before anyone arrives.
18+ on every participant
Every participant enters a date of birth, and the server enforces 18+ at booking — not a checkbox, an actual gate. Handy when the gear is a jetski.
QR check-in at pickup
Every confirmation carries a QR ticket. Scan it on any phone at the counter and the booking is checked in — it runs in the browser, so there’s nothing to install.
Weather-day refunds
Southerly rolls in? Refund a booking in full or in part without leaving GoodKeen — the money goes back to the guest’s original payment method through your own Stripe account.
Gift vouchers for the shoulder season
Issue vouchers from your admin — winter promos, making good on a rained-off day — and guests redeem them online at checkout. NZ’s 3-year minimum expiry is built in.
The numbers that run the counter
Every feature is on every plan — paid plans lift the booking cap, nothing else.

Sessions and capacity — not serial numbers
Worth being straight about, because “rental software” covers two different jobs. GoodKeen models sessions and capacity: how many can go out at 2pm, who booked, who signed, who paid. It does not track individual assets — there are no per-item serial numbers, no maintenance states, no bond handling.
If you need to know which specific kayak is on the water — hull numbers, service history, the one with the dodgy skeg — a dedicated asset-tracking rental system fits better, and we’d rather tell you that now than after you’ve imported your customers.
If you need to know how many are out — which is the whole question for most hire counters — capacity does it, with a lot less admin than barcoding the fleet.
- “How many boards are out at 2pm?” — capacity per timeslot answers it. That’s GoodKeen.
- “Is everyone going out signed and paid?” — waivers at booking, payment before pickup. Also GoodKeen.
- “Which hull is due a service, and where’s the bond?” — that’s per-asset territory. A dedicated asset-tracking system suits you better.
Pick your counter
The detail differs by what’s on the rack — each hire trade has its own page.
Kayak & SUP hire
Waivers signed before anyone reaches the water — not on a soggy clipboard at the ramp.
Kayak hire booking software →Bike & e-bike hire
Trail-day and town-day tiers on the same fleet — half-day and full-day hires side by side.
Bike hire booking software →Boat & jetski hire
The server-enforced 18+ date-of-birth gate earns its keep when the gear has a throttle.
Boat & jetski hire software →Fishing charters
Per-seat pricing on scheduled departures — sell the boat by the angler, not the hour.
Fishing charter booking software →The FareHarbor-alternative question, for hire operators
Plenty of hire operators land on a big overseas platform because the software costs nothing up front. The catch sits at your guests’ checkout: FareHarbor’s guest fee is typically 6–8% — the rate isn’t published and is set per agreement. On a summer of full-day hires, that’s a real number leaving your guests’ pockets before the gear moves.
GoodKeen’s answer is a flat plan instead: free up to 25 bookings a month, then Starter at NZ$39/mo or Pro at NZ$79/mo, with 0% fees to you and your guests on every plan.
FareHarbor’s guest fee is not published — “typically 6–8%” per an analysis by rival platform CaptainBook (captainbook.io), checked Aug 2026 — check each provider for current rates. Card processing (Stripe) is charged separately by your payment provider on any system.
